A basic website in India costs about ₹2,000–₹6,000 a year on a DIY website builder, ₹10,000–₹80,000 one-time from a freelancer, or ₹50,000 and up from an agency. Add ₹500–₹1,500 a year for a domain, plus hosting and upkeep. If clients need to book and pay on the site, budget for that too.Figures: a hosting company's 2026 guide (Hostinger India, "How much does a website cost in India in 2026?", updated 26 February 2026), checked 14 October 2026.

Ask three people what a website costs and you get three numbers: a freelancer's ₹25,000 quote, a hosting ad cheaper than a coffee, an agency's lakh. All can be honest; they price different things, and almost none prices what a solo professional needs: a site that takes a booking and a payment. Not sure you need a website yet? Start there instead.

Is a website a bill you pay once, or forever? Both. Even a site you paid for in full has three running costs.
₹500–₹1,500
a year
about ₹42–₹125 a month
For .com, .in or .net. If it lapses, someone else can register it.
₹2,000–₹5,000
a year, shared
about ₹167–₹417 a month
Managed WordPress hosting is ₹3,000–₹8,000 a year. Builders fold hosting into the plan.
₹1,500–₹10,000
a year, outsourced
some providers charge ₹1,000–₹5,000 a month, mainly for online stores
Updates, patches, backups and every price change.
Domain, hosting and maintenance figures: Hostinger India's 2026 guide (updated 26 February 2026), checked 14 October 2026. Monthly figures are the yearly range divided by 12.
A website is not a one-off purchase. It is a running cost you sometimes pay for up front.
Freelancer
₹10,000–₹80,000
one-time, set by pages, design and what the site must do
Agency
₹50,000–₹2,00,000+
one-time, with a design team, revisions and project management

Quotes are usually honest about what they cover. Check these six for what they leave out before you accept one.
Content
Who writes each page, and how many edit rounds are included.
Photos
Whether you supply them, or they are sourced or shot for you.
A booking tool
Can clients pick a slot, or only send an enquiry?
A payment gateway
Can clients pay on the site, and on whose account?
Changes after launch
What a price change costs once the project closes.
Logins
Ask who will own the domain and hosting logins before you ask what the site will look like.
Most cost guides price a brochure. A coach, tutor or consultant needs a site that offers a real slot and takes the money first. As one agency's guide puts it:
The moment your site needs to do work rather than just inform, it is a web app, and the cost equation changes completely.
On a builder or WordPress, bookings mean an add-on, plugin or separate tool. On a freelancer build, they are a line in the quote or a gap in it. The test: can a client pick a slot from your real booking calendar and have it held without messaging you?
Payments on your own site need a gateway. Razorpay's standard rate is 2% per successful domestic transaction, plus 18% GST on that fee, with ₹0 setup.
On a ₹1,500 consultation
The gateway must also hold the slot only once payment clears, or you are back to QR codes on WhatsApp and unpaid no-shows. Start by taking payment before the session.
Razorpay, razorpay.com/pricing ("Last updated: May 2026"), checked 14 October 2026. Business credit cards have a different rate, and new accounts get a 90-day offer.
Setav takes no commission on your bookings. Payment gateway charges of 0% to 5%, depending on the payment mode, apply only when your client pays through Pay via Setav. Pay via UPI and Pay later bookings carry no charges. Details are in the FAQ on the Go Pro page.
One site, priced three ways: your services and prices, a booking calendar on your real availability, and UPI payment before the slot is confirmed.
Hostinger India's 2026 guide and Razorpay, checked 14 October 2026; the freelancer total adds the four ranges. Setav figures come from live pricing: yearly is setup plus a year's subscription, monthly is setup plus each month charged in year one.
DIY is cheapest in cash and dearest in your time. Only the managed route has booking and payments built in.
Because most of what you pay for is people's time, and custom work takes a lot of it.
Custom design
Layout, type and colours made for your brand, on every screen size.
Revisions
Every round of changes is hours. Agencies include a set number and bill the rest.
Developer time
Add bookings, logins or payments and a site becomes software.
Project management
Someone keeps an agency build on schedule, and that time is billed.
Custom is right for unusual integrations, member logins or a brand unlike anyone else's. For services, prices, a calendar and a checkout, you would pay for flexibility you will not use. We compared a custom-built website or a managed one in detail, including when the developer is the better answer.
Start from what the website has to do, not from what it costs.
If you need a simple page, and you enjoy building it
If you need full control, and you are happy maintaining plugins
If you need a custom design, built once, with bookings handled elsewhere
If you need a large site with integrations, logins or many pages
If you need clients to book a session and pay before it, without running the tools yourself

See Go Pro Websites and PricingAlmost always, even if you paid for the build in one go. A domain renews every year, hosting is billed monthly or yearly, and someone has to keep the site updated. A website builder bundles these into one plan, about ₹2,000–₹6,000 a year for a basic site according to Hostinger India's 2026 guide. On a freelancer-built site they are separate bills.
For a small site, outsourced maintenance usually costs ₹1,500–₹10,000 a year, according to Hostinger India's 2026 guide, and some providers charge monthly retainers of ₹1,000–₹5,000, mainly for online stores. Add hosting, about ₹2,000–₹5,000 a year on shared hosting, and the domain renewal.
About ₹500–₹1,500 a year for common extensions such as .com, .in or .net, according to Hostinger India's 2026 guide. Premium names can cost more. Register it in your own name, whoever builds the site.
Usually ₹10,000–₹80,000 as a one-time project fee, according to Hostinger India's 2026 guide, depending on the pages, the design work and what the site has to do. Hosting, the domain and maintenance are normally extra.
Hostinger India's 2026 guide puts a small business site at roughly ₹5,000–₹50,000, and one of 5 to 15 pages at ₹10,000–₹80,000. There is no single average: a site that takes bookings and payments costs more than one that only informs.
